Assistant Heritage Education Officer

Requirements

  • A three-year National diploma or Bachelor’s degree in

History/Museology or Heritage

  • A postgraduate qualification in Education (advantageous)
  • Tour guiding qualification (advantageous)
  • Minimum of two years relevant work experience
  • Experience in managing projects, programmes, campaigns and

events

  • Presentation and facilitation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) – must write and

speak fluent English and fluency in isiXhosa and/or Afrikaans will serve

as an advantage

  • Computer proficiency in MS Office applications
  • A valid Code EB driver’s licence serve as an added advantage
  • Willingness to work after hours, weekends and public holidays when

required

Key Performance Areas

  • Coordinate heritage/cultural/history workshops, projects,

programmes, events and guided tours for City staff, councillors,

tourist, community members, general public, school learners,

educators and youth groups at the Nelson Mandela Exhibition, City

Hall and precinct and other relevant heritage sites across the City

  • Conduct research on relevant topics and issues
  • Develop and host presentations and education lessons linked to the

school curriculum

  • Develop monitoring and evaluation plans and conduct them
  • Set-up and assist with facilitating meetings and workshops with

internal and external stakeholders and compile meeting minutes and

action notes

  • Assist with the development, revision and dissemination of

appropriate resources, exhibition and education materials, lesson

plans and activities

  • Safekeeping of all records and compile and maintain statistical

records and filing

  • Report for feedback purposes via various reporting tools (e.g. Excel,

presentations) on success stories and lessons learned, with
