The AIDS Foundation of South Africa (AFSA) is a Durban based NGO that acts as an interface between Donors and Community Based Organisations (CBO’s) working in the HIV/AIDS sector by placing donor funds with strategically selected CBOs, in South Africa, and providing them with ongoing, technical support & capacity building. AFSA has been selected to be appointed by the Global Fund as one of the Principal Recipients (PRs) that will manage programmes to be funded by the grant.

AFSA wishes to appoint a suitably qualified individual to serve as a PR Finance Manager for the Global Fund grant. Applicants must have the ability to work in a demanding and high-pressured environment and be able to travel extensively and frequently.

Purpose of Job:

  • Responsible for Global Fund grant financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting. Working closely with various departments and senior management to provide valuable insights, drive financial performance, and ensuring the Donor’s objectives are met.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Commerce or related field, NQF level7
  • Postgraduate qualification would be advantageous
  • Articles
  • Minimum 6 years’ post articles experience
  • At least 5 years must be at Management level or similar Finance related role
  • Experience within the NGO sector advantageous
  • Experience in managing international grants advantageous
  • Procurement related skills
  • Knowledge of Pastel Evolution Accounting
  • Advanced Microsoft office
  • Ability to multitask, deadline driven and able to work under immense pressure
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a deep understanding of financial principles and practices

  • Superior organization skills
  • Ability to manage, mentor, coach and/or develop employees
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders

  • Ability to interact with the Board, Executive Management and Donors
  • Continuously review and enhance financial systems, processes, and controls to streamline operations and improve efficiency

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement financial strategies and plans aligned with the organisation and Donor goals and objectives
  • Conduct financial analysis, interpret financial data, and provide insightful reports to support decision-making processes
  • Prepare and manage the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to establish Donor objectives and targets
  • Update and maintain accurate financial forecasts
  • Generate regular financial reports for senior management and stakeholders, highlighting key performance indicators and financial results
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and internal financial policies
  • Monitor cash flow and liquidity to optimize working capital and ensure sufficient funds are available to meet operational requirements
  • Identify and assess financial risks, recommending appropriate risk management strategies to protect the organisation and Donor assets and investments
  • Lead and mentor a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment
  • Manages and participates in the preparation of various Global Fund financial statements and reports
  • Manages internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls
  • Coordinates preparation of external audit and external financial reporting
  • Participates in the preparation of Board reports
  • Prepare and present AFSA’s GF Programme Financial report to the CCM and Oversight Committee
  • Authorise Purchase Orders for GF Programme
  • Conduct performance appraisals for GF Finance Team
  • Perform Adhoc duties as requested by the Donors, Board of Directors, Executive Management and/or Line Manager.
